Sand & Sunshine | A Guide to Seaside

If you look up “picturesque beach town” in the dictionary, Seaside, Florida would appear next to the definition. I recently visited this adorable hideaway for a Bachelorette party and loved every second of it. Think beautiful beach houses, biking as the main mode of transportation, rows of food trucks and beach front shops. If you have not visited, put this stop along 30A at the top of your list. Check out my guide to Seaside and plan that beach getaway today.

Seaside Bike Row

Watercolor Inn & Resort

Watercolor Inn and Resort is the ideal place to stay during your visit to Seaside. You can opt to stay in one of the inn rooms or invest in a vacation rental. The community is filled with charming homes, bike paths leading into town and amenities such as a beach club, pools and water activities at The Boathouse. Luckily for us, we were able to stay in the bride’s family home, so we had our own private sorority house, if you will. Regardless of your choice, Watercolors is the perfect home away from home.

Grilled Cheese

Meltdown on 30A

If you love grilled cheese, this is the food truck for you. I had the brie and bacon grilled cheese on cranberry walnut bread, and it literally changed my life. There is something for all cheese lovers at this hotspot on #AirStreamRow. Notable items include the B-A-C, which is bacon jam (umm..yes), avocado & cheddar or the grilled pimento cheese sandwich. Pair with a cup of roasted tomato soup or Route 11 chips for your perfect beach lunch.

Market

Perspicasity

This “beachside bazaar” is a must see on your vacation. Originally opened as a produce stand, Perspicasity is an open-air market in the heart of Seaside. They pride themselves on selling fashionable pieces made with natural fibers as well as a large variety of accessories. Stop in and pick up and sarong or a straw hat on your way to the beach!

Great Southern Cafe

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this charming restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating. Their smoked gouda cheese grits are a must-have when you visit. We had brunch on the porch and enjoyed some Southern cuisine (think fried green tomatoes and beignets) and the veggie frittata. It was the perfect way to start our day!

The Red Bar

Located a little ways away in Grayton Beach, Red Bar was the perfect spot to begin our night out. It has a dive bar vibe with live music, incredible food and delicious drinks. It is perfectly informal; menus are presented on class room style chalkboards as your waiter or waitress describes each entree. Being there reminded me of my family’s crazy, unorganized yet unforgettable Thanksgiving dinners where people are passing food over one another and yelling instead of talking. The crab cakes are phenomenal as well as their nightly specials, so be sure to check those out! We had a celebrity spotting during our outing there, so truly anything can happen at this magical place.

The Shrimp Shack

The Shrimp Shack may be tiny in size but has a huge presence in Seaside. Located right on the beach, they have screened in seating as well as a covered pavilion where guests can chow down on a lobster roll or oysters prepared a variety of different ways. Looking for a sweet treat? Try their chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick. Worth every
calorie.
